With the increase of Reality shows- the craft of directing is falling to the Editors but to get a truly great performance from Children and amateurs you need a sensitive director to give them the confidence to give a great performance. I have 16 years Directing both professional and amateurs alike working in educational and documentary you often find the talent have not been exposed to cameras lighting or crew and to facilitate a great performance to make it look right takes some time, but always worth the effort. If "its crazy to choose to work with children and animals" then I am just what you need the "crazy" director.
